It’s from Marie-Galante, land of sugar cane and of great musical traditions that this drummer and singer hails. Later on he would move to Les Abymes, a city on the outskirts of Pointe-à-Pitre. By using a new, experimental approach to Ka music, José Manclière recorded this track under more or less makeshift circumstances giving a singular lo-fi sound to this ultra rare DIY album. You can hear the “homemade” quality of the sound in the rhythm section, which forsook the use of a bass drum. And yet, it was recorded by none other than Pierre-Edouard Décimus, who also plays bass while Patrick Jean-Marie loses himself into a superb improvisation on the piano.
