He began by swapping a bicycle for a saxophone. “Ti Marcel” discovered jazz when he won a Teppaz phonograph and 75 78rpm records at a lottery. He quickly constructed his own sound by listening to the great tenors of that time. The American Don Byas became his main inspiration, who in fact told the Martinican when he met him at Trois-Maillets, to “differentiate himself from his playing.” Although he remained mostly with this type of groove, he also distinguished himself in all kinds of sessions, especially Latin versions; however, in the end, he recorded very little for himself. This track, which lies at the edge of all his influences, could easily be from the catalogues of Strata East, Tribe, or Black Jazz Records.
